COYOTE IS COMPLETELY AWARE OF HER WORLD…….
Take a moment and peer into the eyes of this coyote photographed by Janet Kessler. And try to feel how she is in her world and how she experiences it fully.
How fully do we experience our world? Last week I was leaving Bowdoin College after a meeting there, and as I was walking down the path, I could not but overhear the conversation between two young college students. The young man stated to the other ~ “For a whole year the Science Building did not exist for me…it just wasn’t there. And not until someone pointed it out to me that I became aware of it…right in front of my face.” He ended by saying “It was my perception of reality.” WOW!
And so, what is your perception of reality? What do you see, and what do you not see? Coyote is a great Teacher, as all animals are. But especially large carnivores like coyote and wolf are holding up mirrors to us of our perceptions of reality. How do we see ourselves in the larger picture of life, and how do we see them. How we treat them is telling us something about ourselves….and today we live in a society that treats them brutally.
How do we listen to them?
How do we hear what they have to tell us?
How do we hear their message both individually and collectively that they are telling us?
LET US IN MAINE RESPOND TO THEIR MESSAGE BY CREATING LAWS THAT PROTECT COYOTES FROM HUMAN VIOLENCE, and expressing to the rest of our country what our welcoming sign to our state says: MAINE~ THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE.
