I want to express appreciation of the New Hampshire Wildlife Agency ….they have placed some solid educational information regarding Coyotes on their website for the people of New Hampshire. You can read it on the link below.
But one sentence caught my eye because it seemed out of place in a text that otherwise was informative and valuable to the community. This is it: “In New Hampshire there is no closed season. Coyotes may be taken by trapping and shooting.” So this is just how it is….why? Why is this accepted as a given?
Have any of you watched the film Amazing Grace, the life of William Wilburforce? If you haven’t, I would encourage you to do so. He was a member of the British House of Commons right around the time of the French Revolution. In his day, the whole cruel reality of slavery was just how it is … no one questioned it, but a few. And it was through William Wilburforce’s undaunted courage and the support of many, many of his countrymen that slavery was outlawed. The people spoke up….and they changed the law!
So how long will it be before “it is just how it is” … the unrelenting killing of our Maine Coyotes … is outlawed. When the people of Maine speak up …the laws will change!
