Cougar: America’s Lion
If you have had the good fortune to read the newly published Wild New World by historian Dan Flores, you learned of the immense loss to the incredible Life that our American continent sheltered for hundreds and thousands of years.
Yet those of us who are fortunate to live at this time in history, have the opportunity to see our wildlife finding their way back to their original homes.
As always, Coyotes lead the way in restoring large carnivores to our continent once more. Their presence here with us now is THE PROMISE of the return of other native carnivores that once thrived here.
And so….YES….. the Cougar, America’s Lion…..is traveling not so far behind Coyote! Quiet and reclusive, Cougars do not announce their presence as Coyote does through their Wild Song. But we now know they are coming East! They are coming HOME…once again.
Coyote…often called THE MESSENGER….by our Native Peoples, is coming to let us know that others are following AND is teaching us coexistence skills that we need to learn. Coyote is teaching us….to coexist we must come to WELCOME carnivores back!
