Coyote ~ Wild Hunter
Janet Kessler
For the greater part of our species’ time on planet Earth, we have been hunter gatherers. And only recently have we turned to agriculture. But despite that recent change, that hunter – gather remains deep in our DNA today.
Today, as in the past, traditional hunting is about respect for the Life one was about to take. Included in that respect is RESTRAINT ……something consistently practiced by the wild hunter, the carnivores. This restraint takes many forms: How often does one take a Life, and how many lives does one take, and in what manner is that life taken…so there will be little or no pain, little or no fear.
Also included in respect is the making use of the body of the Life taken …no waste. Without a doubt, wild hunters waste nothing.
Killing is something completely different. When one reads through the internet sites of those who kill carnivores……especially those who seek to kill Coyote…there appears a stark disparity from traditional hunting.
The first and most striking difference is that these individuals seek to make Coyote the enemy. When someone is your enemy, that makes it not only OK to kill the other Life but it is a great service to do so.
And does one respect the enemy? No, one hates the enemy. And one shows no form of restraint in therefore killing them. There is NO restrain in the HOW or the HOW MANY or HOW TO KILL. And is the body of the Life taken used? Most often their bodies are thrown away…. And one other term is often used on these sites…the word FUN. It is fun to kill the Coyote.
THE TAKING OF A LIFE IS FUN…….???
Is there a DIFFERENCE between Hunting for deer in the Autumn of the year and KILLING Coyotes all year long? YES…there is a world of difference. And that difference takes place within each person.
Those who kill Coyotes in the name of Hunting, DISHONOR what traditional hunting is all about. As a culture, we need to FIND OUR WAY BACK to our true relationship with Life.
